FAQ

Q: Who can participate in the NYC HAQ?

A: The hackathon is open to all undergraduate students from CCNY, Columbia, and NYU who are able to attend in person on the 21st, 22nd, and 28th of September.

Q: I’m a graduate student. Is there any way for me to participate?

A: Yes! You can be a mentor! If interested, go to the registration page.

Q: I don’t know anything about quantum programming. How can I be a part of this?

A: No problem! Over the course of five days, you’ll be attending a 1.5-hour online class that will teach you everything you need to know. It will help if you have experience in linear algebra and programming.

Q: Who’s hosting this event?

A: The event will be hosted on three campuses: CCNY, Columbia, and NYU Tandon. It is possible in large part due to the hard work and all-around enthusiasm of SandboxAQ, an AI and quantum technologies company.

Q: Why quantum programming? Can’t we just have a regular hackathon?

A: Quantum technology’s ability to enhance computing, sensing, and navigation, along with its potential to transform various industries, underscores its importance in the modern technological landscape. The field is growing rapidly, and NYC HAQ is a great first step toward exposing you to this exciting area of study. Plus it’s fun!

Q: How can I participate as a mentor?

A: Undergraduate and graduate students at NYU with a background/experience in quantum programming and or AI technologies who would like to participate as mentors to the student teams can register on the registration page.

Q: Is NYC HAQ in-person, remote, or hybrid?

A: Hybrid. We would like students to get the chance to first meaningfully engage with one another, their mentors and invited guest speakers in-person during the kick-off weekend. However, we also want to be mindful of our students’ schedules during the week, hence, the added virtual component. Finally, the Showcase at the very end is in person, of course. Please refer to the Calendar page.

Q: What if I want to learn more about quantum computing after the hackathon?

A: You’re in luck. Check out what each of the hosting schools has going on in the field of Quantum Technology.
